Compulsive Gambler

Compulsive Gambler

Compulsive gambling is seen as an illness that is progressive in nature.  Many feel that is can never be cured, like being an alcoholic, that it is managed but never really gone.  People who are members of  Gamblers Anonymous say they felt they were just morally weak and out of control  Before a gambler with trouble can join this group, they must first be willing to accept  the fact that they are under the influence of a progressive illness.   They must also show that they have a real desire to get well.

The program that Gamblers Anonymous offers will work for anyone who really wants to stop gambling.  It has been proven that even the best program cannot help a person who cannot face the facts.   It is totally up to you to make that decision and nobody can make you do that.   Once they complete this gambling program, the healed gambler cannot ever gamble again. For the gambler, that first bet is very similar to the way an alcoholic feels toward that first drink.   Once they have abstained for a period of time, they could one day be tempted and being again.  The thought of consequences does not enter their thinking.
